The proposition offered by Bruno Freire, a Brazilian choreographic artist based in Brussels, is based on the book Life Is Not Useful, written by the indigenous activist Ailton Krenak, in which he asserts: “Life is an experience of the marvellous […] that cannot be reduced to a utilitarian choreography”. These words have been chiming with Bruno Freire who, since completing his studies at ex.e.r.ce, has been conducting research into the marvellous. Having become a kind of mantra, these words take the young choreographer into a physical practice that consists of dancing just for the sake of it rather than to produce any useful gesture. Bruno Freire’s danced lecture is similar to an interpretation of the world conceived as a score, as music or as a song, a way of inhabiting another person’s thinking. His physical storytelling is underpinned by basic questions such as will we be able to rewild our bodies and cities, where do we find joy so that we don’t sink into melancholic anxiety about the eco-climate, and how should we dance to delay the end of the world? This danced lecture is part of the DIPTYQUE project that also includes the trio Matamatá presented at la Balsamine from 17 to 21 October 2023.

La conférence dansée est à prendre ici dans son double sens comme conférence sur la danse et/ou danse qui performe un texte ou une pensée.
Le cycle se compose de commandes passées par Charleroi danse à des artistes et de pièces déjà existantes.
