After training in Amsterdam and Brussels and graduating from Parts in 2004, the Danish choreographer and dancer soon developed an art of hybridity. Her quest – blurring appearances, overturning logic, upsetting our perceptions, questioning the body’s representations – now finds a new mode of expression in The Dancing Public.
Conceived before the Covid pandemic but nurtured during lockdown, the piece takes the form of festive homecomings at the very heart of the crowd. Historical, scientific, sociological and indeed political, the journey offered by Mette Ingvartsen takes us through the movements of “dancing mania” linked to pathologies or periods of socioeconomic crisis. This is a performance that borrows from various registers and with communicative power explores and exposes the dissent carried in bodies dancing together.
