In his creations Xavier Le Roy questions the spectacular form and the institutions that support it, the choreographic performance and its actors, as well as the place of
the spectator in these devices. In 2007,
he created Rite of Spring because he was struck by the gestures of the conductor
Sir Simon Rattle conducting Stravinsky’s score.
In his performance, he uses the body movements of the conductor, alone before the spectators who take the place of the orchestra’s musicians thanks to an immersive sound device.
Xavier Le Roy makes a form
of dance appear, a musical one in the strictest sense, by adopting the conductor’s intense gestures. The choreographer explains: “In listening, there are as many bodies
as there are roles and perspectives”.
In this case, who is interpreting the music during
the concert: the composer, the conductor, the musicians or each of the listener- spectators?
